Background

Young people who use drugs (YPUDs) and other inadequately served populations (ISPs) have a set of unique needs in terms of harm reduction and support services. As a result of the current pandemic, many of these needs have been emphasised, and a demand and need for the wider availability of online and/or remote provision of such services has been identified. This consultancy seeks to train a group of young people as trainers who are well-versed to assist their peers in setting up and delivering online harm reduction and support services tailored to the specific needs of YPUDs and other ISPs.

Tasks

Youth RISE is looking to hire a consultant to develop and carry out a ‘Train the Trainer’ workshop virtually for a select group of young people to enable them to go on to train peers in setting up and delivering online harm reduction and support services for young people who use drugs and other young ISPs such as young LGBTQIA+, young people living with HIV, young sex workers etc.

The consultant is expected to:

  • Develop content and materials for a ‘Train the Trainer’ workshop to train young peer workers to provide online support for young people who use drugs and other key affected populations. The training content should be based on the training manual developed by the Eurasian Harm Reduction Association and Youth RISE as consortium partners – to be shared with the consultant.
  • Organise and deliver a ‘Train the Trainer’ workshop for a small, international group of young people, virtually
  • Provide feedback to the content of the training manual.
  • Provide ongoing online support to the trainers, as needed, until the end of the implementation period (August)

Preferred Skills and Experiences

  • Experience working with YPUD and other young ISPs;
  • Knowledge of and experience working in online harm reduction and support services for young people;
  • Experience of conducting trainings and ‘train the trainer’ programs for peer workers and young people in an online format;
  • Experience working in multicultural contexts.

Timeframe and Budget

The workshop is expected to be delivered by early July 2022. Occasional online support might be requested for the participants as they each deliver local trainings throughout July and August. The work is expected to be completed over 10 consultancy days in total, with a maximum budgeted daily rate of $500 per day.
