The flexible guide for the implementation of the Youth InPower (YIP) Sustainability Framework

The flexible guide for the implementation of the Youth In Power (YIP) Sustainability Framework was created to complement online, in-person, or hybrid training and discussions of youth-led drug-related organisations. As part of the open nature of the project, this resource is expected to be used by other organisations for a positive sustainability impact that includes cooperatively tackling their key areas of improvement. All youth-led and community-led organisations will be able to benefit from the practices employed in the Framework, and even be able to self-implement the Framework within their contexts using the Organisation Assessment Tool, at any point in the future. Alongside this, organisations such as IDPC that regularly engage with youth-led organisations, particularly drug-related organisations, or who have youth-led committees or working …

Drug Decriminalisation Across the World

The criminalisation of people who use drugs compounds drug-related challenges and worsens health and welfare outcomes. Across the world, there is a growing number of jurisdictions where the possession of scheduled drugs for personal use has been decriminalised. In some countries and federal states, this has been extended to the cultivation of cannabis for personal use or the sharing of substances where there is no financial gain (also known as ‘social sharing’). This map has been developed by Talking Drugs in partnership with Release, the International Drug Policy Consortium, and Accountability International, thanks to the financial support of the Robert Carr Fund and Open Society Foundations. High willingness to use rapid fentanyl test strips among young adults who use drugs

Synthetic opioid overdose mortality among young adults has risen more than 300% in the USA since 2013, primarily due to the contamination of heroin and other drugs with illicitly manufactured fentanyl. Rapid test strips, which can be used to detect the presence of fentanyl in drug samples (before use) or urine (after use), may help inform people about their exposure risk. The purpose of this study was to determine whether young adults who use drugs were willing to use rapid test strips as a harm reduction intervention to prevent overdose. We hypothesized that those who had ever overdosed would be more willing to use the test …
