Sergio is a researcher at Dejusticia’s drug policy line, and was born in Itagüí, Colombia. He holds a law degree from Universidad EAFIT, where he developed a strong foundation in public law.
At Dejusticia, one of Latin America’s leading research and litigation centers, he works at the intersection of drug policy, human rights, and social justice. His work challenges prohibitionist frameworks through research, strategic litigation, and policy advocacy. He has written on topics ranging from the rights of people who use drugs and the criminalization of drug consumption in public spaces, to the international scheduling of coca leaf, the impact of drug policy on incarcerated women, and the growing public health challenges of chemsex. His writing combines rigorous legal analysis with a commitment to the dignity and autonomy of every human.
Before joining Dejusticia, he worked as a constitutional lawyer at the Asociación Colombiana de Ciudades Capitales and at the Comisión Colombiana de Juristas, a human rights NGO.
