João is a Political Science and Human Rights student from Brazil, currently living in Montreal. He has been involved with drug policy advocacy since 2017 when he was engaged with medical cannabis associations in Brazil.
Since then, João has worked with drug advocacy and drug education programs with the Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy (CSSDP) and Voxcann, a bilingual Cannabis education platform in Montreal. During this time, he was also involved with research about the intersection of Cannabis and LGBTQIA2+ issues. He also volunteers with GRIP Montreal, a harm reduction organization focused on encouraging informed decision-making and safer drug use.
As a human rights advocate, João is involved with the Incarceration Nations Network in New York City, supporting the development and implementation of programs worldwide and managing partnerships in Latin America. As a Coordination Assistant for Equitas, an international centre for human rights education based in Montreal, João is responsible for implementing and coordinating the International Human Rights Training Program. He is also involved with RESHAPE, an organization located in Lisbon that focuses on reintegrating incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people in Portugal.
