International Working Group Member
Maria is a social activist, her journey in activism started from joining a local feminist group at the age of 18. Later she became interested in other topics such as LGBTQ rights and advocacy, and harm reduction. During her time in the Youth RISE International Working Group, she hopes to implement harm reduction projects in her home country Kyrgyzstan and represent the region of Central Asia on the global stage. The specific area of interest for Maria is new psychoactive drugs and how they affect HIV prevention. It is important for her to build solidarity between marginalized communities because we all have different intersecting identities that affect our lives. Seeing the rise of neoconservatism and right-wing politics globally, solidarity becomes vital.
